a distance of approximately 450 miles, which took ten days.
For comparison, Frank Hopkins (the hero of Hidalgo) rode
a stallion named Joe 1800 miles from Galveston, Texas, to Rutland,
Vermont, in 31 days, covering an average of 58 miles per day,
and travelling no more than ten hours per day. Joe finished in
excellent condition.
